Indonesian students ready to participate in the race fuel efficient vehicles at the Sepang Circuit, Malaysia. Targets are set in  Shell Eco-Marathon is 1,500 km per liter.

Fuel efficient vehicles that are contested by students is an engine fueled by gasoline, diesel or ethanol. From the few vehicles that are contested, some are using the motorcycle engine or other engines with engine capacity between 35-210 cc.

In general, for the sake of efficiency, the average vehicle body made of carbon fiber in the form of fiber or acrylic. The vehicle speed are set to be drive at a speed of 25-40 km per hour. Vehicle wheel mounted on the outside to make the car more stable when its cornering.

The specification of 10 fuel-efficient vehicles from Indonesian students, in general, are as follows:

1. Vehicles from the UI
UI student team send two vehicles. Their name are Garuda Kesavha Evolution and Kalabia (taken from the Papuan language which means the Sharks). With a length of the vehicle not more than 275 cm and width 80 cm, and weight 50 kg only, Garuda Evolution Kesavha set a target of 1000 km per liter. While Kalabia with machine of Shogun 125 cc set a target of 500 km per liter.

2. Vehicles from Gajah Mada University
GMU student teams send two cars. Their name are Semar Prototype and Semar Urban. With aluminum chassis and fiberglass body, the weight of each are 50 and 100 kg without driver, the vehicle engine 4 stroke with 1 cylinder between 100-110 cc mileage targets 280 km per liter to 300 km per liter.

3. Vehicles from ITB
ITB team also send two vehicles for this race. The first one is named Cikal Nusantara. With aluminum chassis and carbon fiber body, the vehicle with 150 kg weight is set a target of 100 km per liter. The second vehicle named Rakata. With a more streamlined shape and weighs only 60 kg, this car set a target of 600 km per liter.

4. Vehicles from ITS
Team ITS passed three vehicles for this race, they are SAPUANGIN 3, 4, and 5. If other vehicles using the ready-made machine, like the machine of SAPUANGIN 3 that using  Honda Revo machine, then for SAPUANGIN 5, ITS student team developed a 90 cc engine Paijo, their own hand made machine, which in SEM in 2010 succeed to get 234 km per liter of gasoline. While SAPUANGIN 4 is the only vehicle diesel from Indonesian which join in SEM Asia this year. SAPUANGIN target 300 km per liter, and SAPUANGIN 4 even set a target 1500 km per liter. Good luck!

5. Vehicles from Politeknik Negeri Pontianak (Polnep)
With a length, height and width of each 312 cm, 70 cm and 108 cm and weighs just 42.4 kg, this car set a target distance of 1,500 km per liter.

All of these vehicles will race on 6-9 July 2011. Hopefully, the Indonesian team could be the legend of fuel efficient race event at Sepang this year.

Surabaya - Along with the increasing world population, the need for increased transportation mobility. Consequently, energy demand will also increase.
One form of response to these problems, Team Machine Ten November Institute of Technology (ITS) launched 3 super energy-efficient vehicles in the ITS Building Robotica, Wednesday (30/03/2011).
The third vehicle is a SAPUANGIN,
SAPUANGIN 2 and 3. Everything will be re-determined to compete in energy-efficient vehicle competition held by the Shell Eco-Marathon (SEM) Asia 2011, 6-9 July 2011 at the Sepang Circuit, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in order to prove that the automobile in Indonesia can compete in the international arena .
SAPUANGIN In designing vehicles, apart from the design side, Team Machine ITS very concerned about the weight of vehicles and vehicle stability.
"To get the fuel-efficient vehicles, the most important factor to consider is the weight of the vehicle as stable as possible and evenly and minimize any friction that occurs," Reveal Eko Hardianto, Manager of ITS Engineering team 2.
In addition, Eco-added, in order to contribute to overcome global problems are not forgotten in designing and building efficient vehicles enargi also include environmentally friendly and pay attention to aspects of safety-aspk.
Meanwhile,
SAPUANGIN name itself is taken from Sunan Kalijaga ajian that supposedly can move from one place to another with ease.
"All our products are local names, because we want to localize the nation," said Saso Herman, Chairman of the Department of Mechanical Engineering ITS Surabaya.
For the problem of vehicle speed, Herman says, has nothing to do with products that will be contested for July. The average speed is only 40 km / h.. But more prioritized keiritan of the vehicle itself.
"The idea is taken it is iritnya. Because in principle the growing fuel prices rise, it is necessary to make more cost efficient. If the usually road 9 km / ltr, yes it could be 15 km," he explained.

"
SAPUANGIN 1 was constrained by a new generation machine that is Paijo-2 for 'revenge', because the wind was a long broom with Paijo-1 engine was defeated in the race last year," said Chairman of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Prof. Dr. FTI ITS Surabaya. Herman Ing Saso on local campuses Wednesday.
He argues that the launch of the Winds Sweep 1, 2, and 3 who performed the mayor of Surabaya Tri Rismaharini accompanied by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. III ITS Suasmoro, then followed by a test drive in the yard Robotics Building on campus complex ITS Surabaya.
According to Prof. Herman Saso, ITS team with three cars SAPUANGIN SEM was optimistic in 2011 because the team had learned from the experience of SEM 2010, which just won two prestigious awards by SAPUANGIN 2.
"SAPUANGIN 1 is lost and only ranked eighth for the class prototype gasoline, but Sweep second wind picked up two titles that won the first prize for urban class and overall champion (grand prize) for the category of gasoline-fueled vehicles (Gasoline Fuel Award) , "he said.
Last year, SAPUANGIN two have traveled a distance of 238 kilometers with a liter of gasoline, thus defeating American record-SEM in the same category by a team of Mater Dei, Canada, with the acquisition of 184 km to a liter of gasoline.
"This year, Winds Sweep 2, which is a new car for 2011 SEM was estimated to have traveled 250 kilometers per liter or equal Winds Sweep 3 which competed in the urban class for category diesel engines (250 kilometers per liter)," he said.
This is different from Winds Sweep 1 which is a prototype class car with gasoline that is predicted to have traveled 1,000 kilometers per liter.
Separately, the supervisor Winds Sweep 1, Dr Sutikno, admitted to heavy competition in the SEM 2011 ITS not the team from other universities from Indonesia, but the team from Thailand and Japan.
"When last year, followed by Asia SEM 81 teams from 10 countries, the SEM this year followed by 121 teams from 14 countries, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Philippines, Thailand, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Taiwan, Iran, Pakistan, Japan , China, and India, "he said.
On that occasion, the mayor of Surabaya, Tri Rismaharini said they were proud to team ITS machines, because he expects the team won the champion of ITS can be like previous years.
"SAPUANGIN technology can be applied to mass transportation in Surabaya. The technology can be emulated and applied to future mass transit," he said.(E011/I007)
