Surabaya (ANTARA News) - Team "SAPUANGIN" from the Department of Mechanical Engineering ITS Surabaya that SAPUANGIN 3, 4, and 5 champion in the race to target energy-efficient vehicle called "Shell Eco-Marathon" (SEM) Asia 2011 in Sepang Circuit, Malaysia , 6-9 July.

According to Prof. Herman Saso, ITS team with three cars SAPUANGIN SEM was optimistic in 2011 because the team had learned from the experience of SEM 2010, which just won two prestigious awards by SAPUANGIN 2.
"SAPUANGIN 1 is lost and only ranked eighth for the class prototype gasoline, but Sweep second wind picked up two titles that won the first prize for urban class and overall champion (grand prize) for the category of gasoline-fueled vehicles (Gasoline Fuel Award) , "he said.
Last year, SAPUANGIN two have traveled a distance of 238 kilometers with a liter of gasoline, thus defeating American record-SEM in the same category by a team of Mater Dei, Canada, with the acquisition of 184 km to a liter of gasoline.
"This year, Winds Sweep 2, which is a new car for 2011 SEM was estimated to have traveled 250 kilometers per liter or equal Winds Sweep 3 which competed in the urban class for category diesel engines (250 kilometers per liter)," he said.
This is different from Winds Sweep 1 which is a prototype class car with gasoline that is predicted to have traveled 1,000 kilometers per liter.
Separately, the supervisor Winds Sweep 1, Dr Sutikno, admitted to heavy competition in the SEM 2011 ITS not the team from other universities from Indonesia, but the team from Thailand and Japan.
"When last year, followed by Asia SEM 81 teams from 10 countries, the SEM this year followed by 121 teams from 14 countries, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Philippines, Thailand, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Taiwan, Iran, Pakistan, Japan , China, and India, "he said.
On that occasion, the mayor of Surabaya, Tri Rismaharini said they were proud to team ITS machines, because he expects the team won the champion of ITS can be like previous years.
